Your Guide to Wine 4 Paws Weekend

In wine country, we’re firm believers that the best things in life are wine and dogs! Fortunately, you can enjoy both of those things this weekend at the 10th Annual Wine 4 Paws weekend presented by our local animal shelter, Woods Humane Society. During the 2-day event,  enjoy tasting at over 80 participating wineries, breweries, and olive oil companies that will donate a percentage of their weekend’s sales or tasting fees to Woods Humane Society in an effort to save and improve the lives of homeless pets on the Central Coast.

To help you plan your wine weekend, we’ve created the perfect, pet-friendly itinerary that will take you from Pismo Beach to Paso Robles. Ready to pawty? Let’s go!

Day One – San Luis Obispo Wine Country

Begin your trip with a stay at one of our oceanfront Pismo Beach hotels with dog-friendly accommodations and work your way North towards the participating tasting rooms in Avila Beach and San Luis Obispo on Saturday.

Stop #1: Avila Beach Tasting Rooms

You’ll find the Sinor-LaVallee Tasting Room just across the street from Avila Lighthouse Suites and the sandy shores of Avila Beach. Using grapes grown just over a mile away from the Pacific Ocean in the Avila Valley, Sinor-LaVallee’s wines give you a true taste of our area’s unique coastal terroir. This tasting room will be donating a percentage of their sales to Woods Humane Society, so be sure to pay your tasting fee (donation) and get your Wine 4 Paws passport stamped upon arrival.

Stop #2: San Luis Obispo Wineries

After finishing up your tasting in Avila Beach, pile in the car with your Destination Driver and drive North about 15 miles towards San Luis Obispo wine country to the participating wineries. First, you’ll come across Clairborne & Churchill Winery where Price Canyon Road meets Highway 227. Their garden bistro seating with picturesque views of the surrounding Edna Valley makes for the perfect place for a picnic lunch. After fueling up there, be sure to stop at Saucelito Canyon’s historic Zinfandel vineyard that dates as far back as the 1880’s on your way across Biddle Ranch Road towards Chamisal Vineyards along Orcutt Road.

Stop #3: Downtown San Luis Obispo

With four wineries under your belt so far, you’ll make your way towards the heart of San Luis Obispo for your final tasting of the day at Stephen Ross Winery before enjoying a hearty dinner downtown. Enjoy flights of small production, limited-release Pinot Noirs in their urban tasting room just steps away from the cellar where they were made knowing that 100% of your tasting fee is going towards furry friends at Woods. Then, head back to your dog-friendly hotel room at Pismo Lighthouse Suites to unwind from your travels. Your dog will love the dog blanket, water bowl and most importantly the dog treats that are waiting upon arrival in your room and you’ll love overlooking our tranquil oceanfront setting as the sunset dips below the horizon.

Day 2 – Paso Robles Wine Country

Wake up to the relaxing sound of the waves crashing along the Pismo Beach bluffs and then be sure to get some food in your stomach before a day of wine-tasting with one of our hotel’s complimentary breakfasts. After that, you’re ready to take on Paso Robles Wine Country!

Stop #1: Tin City

As you make your way North on Highway 101, be sure to pull off at Tin City, the hub of Paso’s most passionate artisans. There, Lefondusac‘s winery bar, Jacob Toft, Kaleidos, or Monochrome Wines are all participating in the Wine 4 Paws event. You’ll especially want to check out Monochrome while you’re in Tin City, as they’re normally open by appointment only, but are open JUST for this special charity event!

Stop #2: Highway 46 Wineries

As you continue North towards Paso Robles wine country, you’ll be faced with two options: tackling the wineries on the west side of Highway 46 or on the east side. On the West side, you’ll encounter participating wineries like Castoro Cellars, Niner Wine Estates, Shale Oak, Donati, and more. While you’re on that side of town, be sure to visit Grey Wolf and Barton Family Wines from 12-4 PM for a special lunch by Jeffry’s Catering at Barton’s Kitchen Window. On the East side of town, Vina Robles, Broken Earth, J Lohr, and Cass Winery are all great tasting options not to miss. If you find yourself hungry at Cass Winery, take advantage of their gourmet lunch by Chef Jacob Lovejoy from 11-5 on their shaded veranda. The best part? A wine tasting flight is included and your tasting fee will support Woods!

Stop #3: Downtown Paso Robles

As you make your way back towards the heart of downtown Paso Robles, it’ll be the perfect time to check-in to your dog-friendly room* at the Paso Robles Inn, situated across the street from the town square and a walkable distance away from downtown tasting rooms. After checking in, enjoy a short evening walk around the park as you pop into Symbiosis Wines, Asuncion Ridge, Parrish Family Vineyards, or Chateau Lettau tasting rooms. At the end of the day, enjoy a fine dining experience at The Steakhouse at the Paso Robles Inn and be sure to bring any local bottles you bought throughout the day, as the restaurant offers complimentary corkage on your first bottle of local wine. Then, retreat back to your guestroom and soak in a private spa tub, feeling good about doing good for the community and having fun all the while. *The Paso Robles Inn is slowly decreasing the number of pet-friendly rooms available. Please be sure to book a labeled pet-friendly room before bringing your dog to the hotel.
