Summer Date Nights #CentralCoasting Style

Sunset Drive In

Take the time-tested favorite movie date night to the next level with a visit to Sunset Drive-In Theater in San Luis Obispo. At just $9 per person, visiting Sunset is a refreshing (and more affordable) take on the class dinner-and-a-movie date night. To make this date night classic even more unique, pack your very own picnic to enjoy in your back seat blanket fort. Concessions sold at the venue are very affordable as well. A large popcorn is just $5, and once you polish off the first bag during movie #1, head back to concessions for a free refill before the second feature begins! For information on what movies are playing, check Sunset’s Facebook page.

Pro Tip: Swing by Trader Joe’s just down the street to pick up some perfect picnic items. We love their assortment of unique cheeses, crackers, and fun desert items.

Drive Up the Highway One Discovery Route

The Highway One Discovery Route is a fantastic date for those looking for weekend activity, or a day of outdoor fun. Though this date should start earlier in the day, it will last well into the evening depending on how long you wish to explore! Start at one of the wonderful Arroyo Grande Valley Wineries, and then grab lunch at one of the Central Coast’s favorite Pismo Beach eateries. Pay a visit at one stop in each town along the route to see the very best the Central Coast has to offer. For an unforgettable ending, make your final stop at sunset in Avila Beach and reminisce on your favorite sights from the day as you relax experience the magic of a Central Coast sunset.

Put Your Knowledge to the Test at Trivia Night

For a fun, lighthearted night out with friends, great food, and beer, visit one of many popular tivia nights in Downtown San Luis Obispo. On Tuesdays, you can go to Charlie’s Place for classic American fare, or Woodstock’s for some good ‘ol pizza and beer. Put your knowledge of movies, politics, and pop culture to the test. Be sure to sign up early, though! This event is a blast, so space fills up quickly.

Grab Ingredients from Farmers Market and Make Your Own Fresh, Local Dinner

San Luis Obispo County is at the heart of one of the most productive agricultural economies on the planet. Lucky for you, that means your options for food are virtually endless! Pick a time-tested favorite recipe and give it a fresh, local twist with hand-picked ingredients from the Farmer’s Market. Be careful though! San Luis Obispo’s Thursday night market is famous for its lively atmosphere as well as delicious smells. Keep your eyes on the prize….Or maybe just stick around downtown for some amazing food cooked right before your eyes and a stroll through the historic Higuera Street area at dusk.

Try Out Bike Night

The first Thursday of every month is bike night in San Luis Obispo! Popular among the resident college crowd of county’s seat, bike night is for the bold! Ride through the main streets of downtown SLO as fellow bikers hoot and holler at the night. This monthly tradition is more than just bikes and college kids, however! Every bike night incorporates a dress-up theme, as well. Prepare to get a little silly as you relive the childhood days of dress up, and we promise you won’t be disappointed.

Pro Tip: There’s nothing like a cold beer after a night of biking through hilly San Luis Obispo! On your way home, ride by Milestone Tavern on E Foothill Blvd, SLO for half-off beers after 10 pm.

Visit Art After Dark

Like bike night, Art After Dark is a special event that only comes around once a month (though we wish came around more!) On the first Friday of the month, visit Downtown San Luis Obispo for local art, music, food, and wine provided by shopkeepers and artists in the downtown area. A map of event descriptions and locations will guide you through a wonderful evening of art and exploration! For the map and more information, please visit the Arts Obispo website.
