How to Make your Hotel Room Feel Like Home
One of the best parts of traveling is that it makes you appreciate coming home so much more! As fun as traveling is, if you fly frequently for business or are embarking on an extended vacation, it can take a toll on your overall happiness—causing stress, poor sleeping habits, jet lag, or homesickness. With cozy fireplaces, personal balconies, comfortable sofas, kitchen access, and plenty of room to fit your entire family in one suite, the rooms at Avila Lighthouse Suites already feel less like a hotel room and more like your beach house for the weekend. By using these few simple tricks, you can make your hotel room feel even more like home, helping you to feel more settled and at ease so you can truly enjoy your destination.
1. Bring a pillow or blanket from home
As children, most of us had a special stuffed animal, pillow, or blanket that we couldn’t leave the house without. Now as adults, we still have specific items that make us more comfortable. Whether it’s the fuzzy blanket everyone in the family fights over during movie nights or a Tempurpedic pillow that supports your neck just right, bringing one of these items will help you feel safe and grounded, reminding you of the smells and comforts of home. Not to mention, it’s always nice to have a pillow for sleeping in the car during your journey! With your favorite pillow or blanket in the room, you’ll sleep easier and feel recharged to take on the #CentralCoasting adventures of the day.
2. Bring a framed photo
Especially if you travel for business frequently, bringing a framed photo of your family and friends to place on the nightstand or dresser will help you to recall warm memories, reduce homesickness, and relieve stress during your travels. Seeing your loved ones’ cheerful smiles before you fall asleep and as soon as you wake up will make your hotel room feel less cold and lonely while adding a personal touch to the room.
3. Unpack your suitcase
Although a seemingly small step, unpacking your suitcase is one of the major ways you can make yourself feel more settled in your hotel room. Often as travelers, we don’t want to deal with the chore of unpacking and repacking if we are staying somewhere for a few days. However, moving your clothing into the dresser or closet of the hotel room will actually make it easier to find your clothes throughout the trip. There’s nothing less homey than living out of your suitcase, so take the 5 minutes to unpack. We never live out of suitcases at home, so why do it while traveling?
