Our Points of Interest map also provide you an interactive way to start planning an Avila Beach excursion. Scroll down to the bottom of this home-page to check out an interactive map of Avila Beach, split up into categories of Dining, Beaches, Shopping, and Outdoor Activities. Below, find information about some of our favorite items in each category!
Avila Wine Trail: this coastal wine trail can be a relaxing, fun, and social way to spend an afternoon. The Avila Beach wine region is nestled in the hills and coastline in between the larger wine-tasting areas of Edna Valley and Paso Robles, but still offers a lovely atmosphere and great selection of quality wines. Just walking distance from the hotel, you’ll find wine tasting. In Avila Beach proper, check out Morovino, Croma Vera, Avila Wine Company, Sinor-Lavallee, and Alapay Cellars. If you want to get away a little further into the foothills between Avila Beach and San Luis Obispo, try out Kelsey See Canyon Vineyards or Silver Horse Winery. In general, this wine region enjoys sunny weather because Avila is a southern-facing, rather than western facing, beach. This entails a unique growing climate for wines that you’re sure to enjoy! And, since everything is so close to the hotel, it’s a fun activity that you don’t have to go too far to experience.
Pirate’s Cove: This beach is true to its name, as a small, enclosed and private beach that you have to hike a bit to enjoy. If this excursion seems exciting enough to your liking, then try out Pirate’s Cove next time you’re in Avila! The beach is less than a five-minute drive away from Avila Lighthouse Suites and offers beautiful views of the ocean from the upper parking lot, and a pleasant downhill nature walk until you get to the shore. Much-known as a favorite local’s spot, the beach is usually very warm and has less traffic than the larger Avila Beach.
Avila Farmer’s Market: The Avila Beach Farmer’s Market is one of the most fun and unique markets in town. Not many local farmer’s markets are located right on the beach, but the Avila Beach market has the Pacific as the backdrop and is only steps away from the Avila Beach Pier and the sand. Whatever your desire for the market, either to pick up fresh and seasonal fruits and vegetables to take home, enjoy a warm BBQ dinner, or just to stroll and maybe find crafty wares, the Farmer’s Market is a great choice for your Friday afternoon. It takes place every Friday from 4 pm – 8 pm from April to September.
Paddle-boarding in Avila Beach: Have you ever been paddle-boarding? This classic California beach activity is easy to learn and simple. While it also gets you out into the outdoors and exercising, it also can be an extremely relaxing and unique activity to see the ocean up close. In Avila Beach, try out Avila Beach Paddlesports and take a lesson or rent a paddle-board for the afternoon! This can be a great activity for kids or couples and will be a guaranteed memorable excursion next time you’re in Avila Beach. Plus, Avila Beach Paddlesports is just down the road from the hotel, but once you’re out on the water you’ll feel like you’re worlds away.
Don’t forget to check out our new Avila Lighthouse Suites website, which is easier to use and book and offers much more information for local activities to enjoy, whether you’re looking for Dining, Beaches, Shopping, or Outdoor Adventures! Hope to see you soon.
