3 Days on the Central Coast
Three days away is the perfect Central Coast getaway. With diverse kinds of activities and adventure throughout the regions of the Central Coast, there is something for everyone to explore and enjoy. And while three days might not seem like a very long time, you can actually fit a lot of different activities into your itinerary when you visit us here on the Central Coast, from hiking and biking to exploring the wide open sea. To help you plan, here is your guide to the different aspects of the Central Coast that you can explore in three days.
Visit Vina Robles Winery, which finds a blend between European inspiration and California adventure, and sample some of their best wines, like their 2013 Petit Sirah. Hang around the property to kick off your vacation with a concert at Vina Robles Amphitheatre, the very best in Central Coast entertainment. The beautiful atmosphere offers great views for everyone when watching some of the best in modern entertainment and music.
Get the ultimate tasting experience – relax and enjoy the views at Tablas Creek, which specializes in Rhone-variety wines, and take an informative cave tour at Eberle winery. Spend the afternoon in wine country and stay for a late lunch, taking advantage of the delicious food and wine pairings at wineries like Broken Earth Winery and Niner Wine Estates. To make this wine-soaked, jam-packed day a little easier on yourself, you can always make use of a wine tour like Uncorked Wine Tours.
Explore the Paso Robles region, which offers diverse culinary experiences in a laid-back environment, centered in old-fashioned downtown Paso Robles. For a unique culinary experience, try olive oil tasting at nearby Kiler Ridge Olive Farm, and you’ll see why locals swear by home-grown olive oil instead of the filtered down oil sold in grocery stores. Try delicious cheese at Vivant Fine Cheese or Di Raimondis Italian Market. You’ll discover the importance of quality food and wine, which you can follow up with a dinner matched with exquisite wine pairings at one of Paso Robles fine dining restaurants.
Get the Pismo Beach experience. First, explore the small crustaceans in tide pools, and witness from afar the large humpback whales that frequently can be seen breeching in the waters. Fuel up with clam chowder in a sourdough bread-bowl from the famous Splash Cafe. They have been a fixture in the community since 1989 and serve over 30,000 gallons of clam chowder every year! When you’re full and ready, get up close with nature with a kayak tour to see the caves and landscape of the shore from a different perspective.
Spend the whole day at the warm and beautiful Avila Beach, pausing from the surf and sand for a lunch at the oceanfront Custom House. Play volleyball, beach games, build sandcastles, or just tan and relax. Nearby is the Avila Valley Barn, a fun activity for children and adults alike, and the Central Coast Aquarium. Follow up your day with a beach bonfire to the left of the pier, with snacks and s’mores galore.
Challenge yourself and learn to surf! You’ll get the true Pismo Beach experience when you catch a wave in the blue waters. If you’re not the surfing type, spend the day shopping and exploring downtown Pismo and stroll down the Pismo Pier to witness the surfers in action. For dinner, try a classic beach spot like Wooly’s or Ventana Grill, and you’ll never take a break from the ocean view.
A full day of adventure can be achieved at the Oceano Dunes. Start with a leisurely horseback ride on the beach, followed by a ride of a more thrilling nature – racing rented ATVS through the boundless dunes. After grabbing food in nearby Oceano, make the most of your night by making a beach bonfire and enjoying the sights and smells
Whether you’re a hiker, biker, or both, the Central Coast offers a variety of trails for your experience level. Avila Ridge Trail is one of the steepest inclines in the area, offering breathtaking views of Avila, Shell, and Pismo Beach. For the experienced mountain biker, visit Montana De Oro State Park in Los Osos for a number of trails, including the duly-named Hazard Peak. Or stick to Avila Beach and enjoy the coastal Bob Jones Trail, taking you on a leisurely and beautiful ride through the forest and to the sea.
Surf, run, play, and explore Pismo Beach. Ocean and beach activities guarantee fun for all ages; like building a sandcastle dangerously close to the tides or riding the biggest wave of the day. Try a kayak tour to see animals up close and personal, while getting your heart pumping from the exercise. Finish the day off with a sunset run along Pismo Beach, making the adrenaline rush that much more enjoyable.
